whar-wolf: press release
Press Release 12/2/08
WHAR Wolf Rescue, Paso Robles, CA USA
WHAR Wolf Rescue Inc, a nonprofit grass roots animal sanctuary for part- and full-blood wolves since 2000, is being forced to move its facility. The sanctuary and rescue sits on land that is being sold via emminant domain situation to Dept. of Transportation, Division of Caltrans. Thus far, as of the print of this copy, proper compensation to WHAR Wolf Rescue has not been paid for its compound which houses 15 current wolf or wolf mix residents. Negotiations have been strained due to the lack of proper acknowledgment by Caltrans agents in addressing WHAR Wolf Rescue's true dire need for new fencing and containment funding. Initial project estimates for the new WHAR Wolf compound are between $104,000 to upwards of $154,000. Proper bids have been obtained and counter bids are being acquired by Caltrans.
To further complicate matters, an anonomyous land use donor, who had promised land use to WHAR since 2006 has now decided to place his land for sale, thus closing the opportunity for WHAR to be placed on this person's 40 acre parcel. Consequently, WHAR Wolf Rescue is now in critical need of a land use donation. Up to two acres, preferred part of at least a 10 acre plus parcel somewhere in the County of San Luis Obispo would suit the needs of the specialized inhabitants of WHAR Wolf Rescue.
WHAR Wolf Rescue has been in pursuit of its mission since 1999, and became a nonprofit 501 (c)3 in 2000. It serves the needs of wolf and wolf mixes and their owners throughout the seven western states of the US. Its mission is modeled around advocacy for understanding the true tendencies of wolf and wolf mixes while discouraging ownership for all persons not willing to educate themselves before the purchase or adoption of a skilled cunning animal such as a wolf.
WHAR Wolf Rescue is one of less then 15 formal programs for this specific type of animal here in the United States. WHAR Wolf Rescue has served to educate about, advocate for, and readopt to screened individuals certain socialized wolf mix animals. Additionally, WHAR Wolf Rescue has also provide sanctuary to a variety of animals that are not fit for re adoption to the public. Without immediate help from the public this mission will cease to exist.
